Therapeutic principle and function

The heat emitted from the volcanic mud, combined with the exceptional penetrating power of Chinese medicinal herbs, helps open up blocked meridians, eliminate toxins, and relieve chills. It also facilitates metabolism, gives a boost to the immune system, and improves both blood and lymph circulation. It alleviates muscle cramps, enhances skin metabolism, and helps to clear inflammation, congestion, and pathogenic agents from the body. At the same time, it can increase secretion of sweat and other waste products, soothe the nervous system, and ease pains.

Clinical application

l  Spondylosis or herniated discs: helps dilate capillaries, speed up metabolism, relieve localized congestion and swelling, as well as alleviate nerve compression and irritation.

l  Soft tissue injuries: helps relax muscles, improve blood and lymph circulation, reduce swelling, and ease pain, thereby treating muscle strain and damaged ligaments.

l  Fractures: accelerates blood flow, thereby shortening fracture healing time.

l  Arthritis: helps dilate capillaries, alleviate muscle cramps, and increase the extensibility of soft tissues, thus reducing inflammation and pain.

l  Builds resistance to disease, and helps to prevent catching a cold.

l  Relieves respiratory problems.

Safety and allergic reactions (precautions):

Prior to treatment, it is recommended to drink water to help the body expel toxins. A warm bath or shower may be taken four hours after the treatment. Cold foods should not be eaten right after, and the massaged regions should not be exposed to cold. Not suitable for pregnant women, nor people with inflammatory skin conditions. Treatment should be discontinued in case of allergic reactions or discomfort.

Possible symptoms during or aftertreatment: if you have excess coldness in your system, the mud compress might feel too hot; red or purplish patches may appear on skin after treatment – this is due to detoxification, and settles down by itself quickly; if bandages or liniments have recently been applied to the treated areas, it is recommended to use ointment after treatment as it may increase skin sensitivity.
